Lyubomi, Western Ukraine: A railway transport of Panther tanks of the SS-Panzer-Regiment 5 / 5.SS-Panzer-Division "Wiking" ready to be shipped to a new assembly area in the East, 13 July 1944. The picture was taken by SS-Kriegsberichter Ernst Baumann. The tanks shown here, camouflaged with foliage, were assigned to SS-Obersturmführer Karl Nicolussi-Leck's 8.Kompanie, famous for his exploits during the relief of Kovel three months earlier, an action for which he was awarded the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes (Knight's Cross of the Iron Crosses). The German shepherd perched atop Panther ‘831′ appears to be inspecting their handiwork!
