Totenkopf and Heer Officers Reading Telegram Together

SS-Untersturmführer Helmut Becker of 3.SS-Panzer-Division "Totenkopf" reading a telegram with Heer Oberleutnant (wearing Sturmartillerie uniform) from Sturmgeschütz-Brigade 228 in front of a destroyed T-34, somewhere in Romania in April 1944. The Totenkopf officer probably is an old member of the SS-TV (SS-Totenkopfverbände), much because of the collartab: it is clear that he uses an old version of it, and you can see how far back the skull on the collartab is placed, which indicate that it used to be a number or a letter below the skull that was only used by the SS-TV before the war. Sturmgeschütz-Brigade 228 served alongside Totenkopf in Bessarabia in the spring of 1944 (and served nearby Totenkopf again in Hungary in early 1945, but this photo is from late spring 1944). Additional info: From 1941 on, the Wehrmacht soldiers regarded the Waffen-SS men as thoroughly reliable comrades. Respect born of shared frontline experiences.
