Villers-Bocage After the Battle

Villers-Bocage after the battle. This battle happened when the British decided to try and encircle Caen (a D-Day objective) and be able to attack the German Panzer Battalions defending her. The battle started on 13th of June when Infantry of the 1st Rifle Brigade and Tanks of both the Council of London Yeomanry (CLY) and 8th Royal Hussars seized the town of Villers-Bocage from light German opposition. The following day, the German 101st SS Panzer Battalion (led by Micheal Wittmann) attacked a Mechanized Column of the 1st Rifle Brigade who where moving down the main road of Villers-Bocage. Wittmanns Tiger was attributed to the destruction of 1 Cromwell, 1 Firefly, 3 Stuart VI and numerous "soft skinned" vehicles. The Tiger then moved into the town itself and destroyed 2 Artillery OP Tanks (1 Cromwell and 1 Sherman) of the 5th Royal Horse Artillery. Wittmann then dueled with a Firefly of the CLY before being disabled and being forced to abandon the Tiger and flee back to German Lines.
